Welcome!

In this 4 day workshop, attendants will work alongside concept artist and illustrator Sam Hogg in the beautiful, natural surroundings of Ericeira, Portugal. Sam is the creator of ‘The Whaler Girl’, a dark fantasy world-building project that combines art and narrative writing and will be helping workshop attendees to flesh out their own fantastical worlds. So if you’ve been sitting on that story idea for a while, this workshop is the perfect excuse to immerse yourself in a creative environment with like-minded people all looking for their next shot of inspiration.

Whether you want to give your characters a rich environment to inhabit or find the right look for your main character, Sam has a breadth of experience in the entertainment industry to help you do just that. With a passion for exploring the endless possibilities of concept art, she will encourage you to step beyond the obvious solutions and find those visual cues that speak to you as a creator. Attendees should expect to come away with a sketchbook that focuses on rough ideas and not on polished paintings. The goal of the workshop is to leave you with a sense of direction for your personal projects and a plethora of initial ideas that you can take away and develop.

The workshop will include live demonstrations, educational lectures and a chance for personal review of your work. Sam has over 12 years of experience in the games industry and worked with clients such as Blizzard, Dark Horse, Critical Role, Playground Games and Rocksteady. She has worked as a lead and is comfortable working with most technical skill levels and also understands that the creative spirit is something to be encouraged, even when giving feedback to improve.
